The exhilarating feeling that pumps through your body as you conquer each challenge in your business and take a moment to recognise all you have achieved. Sometimes it seems you are invincible. Eventually though, we all come to the realisation we are human and suffer ailments from time to time. Whether it be a niggling headache that sneaks up on you slowly and takes ever so long to dissipate, or a muscle injury from overuse, maybe it is a sport/gym activity, perhaps something more interrupting occurs or a family member requires additional down and before you know it you need a complete redirection of your day to day activities. Some of us will have key personnel insurance or similar, but most will not. Claiming for such insurance is a whole other challenge. When you are employed by a boss you can possibly take some sick leave or long service leave or maybe parent leave, but when you are in business for yourself it is a lot more difficult. UNLESS.....you develop your business to prepare for the fact that you are not a completely invincible superhero. It doesn't take a lot to implement workable and cost effective strategies, especially with the insights offered from a team of people who have traversed the great divide between the creation stage to automation mode.
Just for starters 3 simple considerations to effect include:
1. Not becoming tunnel vision about your business. Instead, it is really important that you remember to take regular deep breaths, gently stretch and find ways that suit you to learn best techniques of relaxation, but equally important and without making patronising comments to highly capable and intelligent people, (which you have to know you are if you have braved becoming an entrepreneur), you have to be more intune with what is good for your body than if you were working in a job for someone, because you initially are your business and without you there is no business. No business means no income, but the bills will still rack up, like rent, electricity, prepaid advertising costs, including, but not limited to digital expenses etc, etc. You don't want to be in this position. So, think about your exercise routine and your diet, plus your overall health routine. If there isn't one, then maybe now is the time to think of one. Being good at business requires a wholistic approach.
2. Determining your person of trust who you can designate to look after matters if you cannot. This is not something to take lightly, as you must choose the right person. You do not necessarily need to give all authority to this person, but it is a good idea to have a responsible person to help attend to issues that may need determining when you are incapable of doing so temporarily. Knowing who can look after or sort your business out, can provide you and those you care for, the peace of mind when it might matter most.
3. Here is the big one: creating systems that create a process for your venture, to operate with well trained and trusted staff members, or in the least, increase your capital potential and make your business more sustainable for the long term, as well as the short term. You may not be considering employing anyone at this stage necessarily, but beginning to develop the systems in, at least, their most basic format, could make your business more attractive financially and enable a buffer zone that would make your business more attractive for someone to consider becoming an investor or potential purchaser.
These 3 strategies are easier to do than most think.
